Alkaline Water – is it all it cracked up to be?

One of the most common talked about things when it comes to water is Alkaline Water.

Let’s start off by saying chances are 99% of all the water that comes out of your tap is alkaline (pH over 7)if you live in the city. Water companies add minerals and chemicals to the water to bring the pH 7 for one main reason, so it doesn’t corrode the pipes.

The other things that is never mentioned is that there is a difference between pH / alkaline water and alkalinity. Alkalinity is the measure of a liquids ability to buffer acidity. A liquid can have a high ph (be very alkaline) yet still not have much alkalinity. This is why you will never be able to alkalize your body with alkaline water alone. Metabolism, stress, poor diet, toxic environments will keep your body acidic. You need a fruit and vegetable rich diet to help balance that out.

For example, in Melbourne the water has around 30 parts per million (ppm) of Total dissolved solids (TDS) and a pH of 7.5- 7.8 usually. About half of this number is usually calcium so 15ppm. Calcium is the by far the major Alkaline mineral in water. In Perth or Adelaide for instance that number maybe around TDS 300 – 550ppm, ph of 7.5-8.0 and the calcium will range from 50-200ppm so you can see the water in WA and SA is far more Alkalinity because there is just more minerals full stop. Yet the pH might be similar.

In the process of making water healthier, electrically ionzing or natural ionization over magnesium the pH will rise. Is this a bad thing? We don’t think so as there are places in the world that the water comes out of the ground with a high pH.

So what does all that mean? We believe that the most important things to look at is putting the natural structure back (vortex) and removing the unnatural contaminants via filtration. We believe anybody that is trying to sell you a water system based on Alkaline water we believe is telling you the whole story about your water.

Just think about this for a minute, picture water coming from a water fall, the a bottle and the a tap.
